About Us
To truly understand the Maryland Sports Medicine Center, all you have to do is walk in the door.

Our Story
From the moment you walk into the Maryland Sports Medicine Center in Olney, Maryland, you are reassured that you have come to the right place. To your right, painted four feet tall, is the United States Olympic logo. Just beyond the logo, you can peak through the windows into the Physical Therapy center, always buzzing with activity. The walls of every room at MDSMC are adorned with framed photos from grateful teams, athletes, and patients. All are inscribed with thanks and tributes to Dr. Higgins and his team. From peewee to Olympic teams, from All-Americans, All-Pros and Olympic Champions, each photo finds a personal way to say, “Thank You, Dr. Higgins”.
For Dr. Higgins, it’s been 25+ years of getting patients back in the game. His goal is to get you healthy again–back to competing, back to exercising, back to living life pain-free. Getting you back to normal is the primary objective of Dr. Higgins and the Maryland Sports Medicine Center team. The proof of that is captured beautifully in the hundreds of framed photos greeting you upon your arrival.

Physical Therapy
Recognized by the U.S. Olympic Committee as a National Network Member, our fully equipped physical therapy center is staffed with knowledgeable and supportive physical therapists who guide and assess patient rehabilitation to keep patients injury-free and active.
Working very closely with Dr. Higgins is our clear advantage over standalone physical therapy clinics. Dr. Higgins works on each case with the assigned therapists to ensure that the patient’s progress is on schedule and that the patient is reaching their full potential.
Our Care Philosophy
The Maryland Sports Medicine Center provides physical therapy, orthopedic care and rehabilitation therapy for patients with all types of sports- and work-related injuries, including muscle, tendon, ligament and bone. In addition, we specialize in post-operative rehabilitation of the shoulder and knee.
Using “hands-on” physical therapy techniques, we are able to reduce greatly patient discomfort and recovery time.
We work together as a team to develop a customized treatment plan by getting to know patients and understand how lifestyle and personal goals influence the treatment process. We aim to ensure that the patient’s progress is on schedule and complete.
